Description:Bac ha Market Nestled in the northern hills of Vietnam exists one of the best ethnic markets in all of Southeast Asia! On Sundays, the ethnic minorities from the surrounding villages and hills come by foot, by motorscooter, by horse, and by water buffalow for their chance to socialize, eat, drink, smoke, get a haircut, and buy produce and meat for the next week. It is a blur of colorful plaids and stripes
Get started:Our bus and guide pick up you at your hotel (in Hanoi Old Quarter area) and takes you to Hanoi Railway Station for the night train to get to Laocai Station. You will have a good sleep on soft bed, aircondition train.
Day 1 (Saturday): Lao Cai – Bac Ha – Can Cau- Bac Ha (B, L, D)The train arrives at the Lao Cai station at about 6:00 am. Look for the “Asia Tour Advisor Logo & Your Name” sign when you exit the train station, as our guide will pick you up there then have breakfast at restaurant
After having breakfast, you will travel by car to Bac Ha, which is 70km Northeast of Lao Cai. The ride is relatively flat from Lao Cai to Bao Nhai, where you will be taken through rural are. Situated in the mountains in border area, 20 km from Bac Ha, Can Cau is a small, but very colorful market. Opening only on Saturdays, it always delivers a very photogenic display of Flower Hmong, Nung, Phu La ethnic costumes.
After spending the whole morning exploring the market, you will leave the market for Bac Ha town for lunch. In the afternoon, you will take a walk to Ban Pho village of Nung and Flower Hmong, which locates in a small valley. The villagers grow vegetable and fruit tree. One of the most famous fruits in the area is plum. You will be able to visit a local house, where you might have chance to taste a cup of corn wine, other famous products of the village. You will go back to hotel late in the afternoon, and then have dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2: (Sunday): Bac Ha – Trung Do – – Boat trip to Chay river- Lao Cai (B, L, D) After drinking a morning cup of coffee, you take a short walk to visit the old castle of the fomer Hmong King. From there, you can head on over to the town. You will then visit the huge market of Bac Ha with its colorful array of ethnic minority people such as Flower Hmong, Phu La , Black Dao, Tay, Nung who gather to buy and sell. After spending the whole morning exploring the market, your lunch will be served in a local restaurant.
After lunch, you drive downhill for about half an hour. You will then start a short walk to Trung Do village. This belongs to the Tay minority. Here you you can visit a traditional Tay house, before getting on a boat. You will have a cruise upstream to the Bao Nhai Bridge, where you get on the car for the journey back to Lao Cai station to catch the night train back to Hanoi.
